Young people shouldn't have to navigate digital life alone. Neither should the adults who care about them.

Mindful Media helps organizations close the gap between young people's digital lives and the adults and programs meant to support them.

The organizations doing the best work for young people were built for a different world. Young people's friendships, risks, creativity, and sense of self are playing out in digital spaces most programs weren't designed to address. You know something is missing. You just don't know where to start.

Mindful Media is the consulting and educational practice of media literacy and youth development specialist Dr. Jacqueline Vickery, focused on helping nonprofits, schools, and communities engage thoughtfully with media and technology in young people's lives.

The work takes three forms:

  • Reviewing and updating existing curricula, experiential programs, and staff training to meaningfully integrate digital media literacy

  • Delivering professional learning, continuing education, and community talks for educators, youth workers, and families

  • Convening partners to design new critical media literacy and creative storytelling programs from the ground up

Grounded in more than 15 years of professional experience in media literacy education, research, and community partnership, Mindful Media centers developmentally responsive and equity-centered approaches to digital life, with particular attention to how media and technology shape young people’s identity, relationships, creativity, and wellbeing.

Communities are navigating complex questions around:

  • Digital Wellbeing & Mental Health

  • Misinformation & Information Literacy

  • Social Comparisons & Influence Cultures

  • Cell Phone & Social Media Policies

  • Relationships, Belonging, & Identity

  • Generative AI & Chatbots

  • Online Safety & Risks

  • Youth Digital Cultures, Memes, & Humor

These issues require more than quick fixes or one-time interventions. They require thoughtful, research-informed engagement across schools, families, and community organizations.
